Delhi Govt to celebrate Odisha Day annually, says CM Gupta
On the occasion of Odisha Foundation Day on Tuesday, Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta and Tourism and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra visited the Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas to offer prayers and seek blessings. During the visit, the CM said Odisha Day would now be celebrated annually as part of the Delhi Government’s official calendar.
At a felicitation ceremony following the temple visit, CM Gupta praised the Odisha community’s contributions to Delhi’s development. “It is my great privilege that within a week, I have visited both Jagannath Puri Dham and the Jagannath Temple in Hauz Khas. Honouring Odisha’s rich cultural heritage is our duty. The people of Odisha have played a vital role in shaping Delhi and with the blessings of Lord Jagannath, the city will continue to prosper under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi,” she said.
Tourism and Culture Minister Kapil Mishra reaffirmed the government’s commitment to recognising Odisha’s heritage. “Odisha Day is now officially part of Delhi’s calendar and will be celebrated with enthusiasm every year. The Odisha community has significantly contributed to Delhi’s economy, education and administration and we deeply appreciate their role in the city’s growth,” he said.
The event was attended by New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, Malviya Nagar MLA Satish Upadhyay and a large number of Odisha community members.
Odisha is known for its rich cultural traditions, including the globally recognised Odissi dance form and intricate handicrafts. The state is home to architectural marvels such as the Sun Temple in Konark, the Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar and the Jagannath Temple in Puri, which continue to be major centres of devotion and
heritage.
