The Delhi High Court on Thursday reserved its order in a petition challenging the Central Information Commission’s (CIC) directive, which instructed Delhi University (DU) to disclose the records of students who graduated in 1978, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi.
“Arguments heard. Judgment reserved,” said Justice Sachin Datta after hearing the parties involved.
Solicitor General Tushar Mehta, representing DU, said the CIC’s order permitting inspection of the 1978 BA records should be set aside. However, he clarified the university had no objection to showing the record to the court. “The university has no objection in showing the record to the court. There is a degree from 1978, Bachelor of Arts,” Mehta stated. The case arose from an RTI application, following which, on December 21, 2016, the CIC ruled against disclosing the records, deeming them “private”. However, the Delhi High Court stayed the CIC’s order on January 23, 2017.
