Delhi man convicted of storing child porn videos in laptop

The Rouse Avenue District Court in Delhi has convicted a man in a case related to possession of Child Sexual Abuse Material (CSAM) after videos were found stored on his laptop.

The case has been posted for arguments on the quantum of sentence on the next date of hearing.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), a case was registered against Anurag Sharma in October 2016 based on a written complaint alleging that he had accessed and downloaded CSAM.

“Investigation revealed that Anurag Sharma was in possession of CSAM video files stored on his personal laptop,” the official said.

He said that after due appreciation of the material on record, the court found Sharma guilty under Section 67B of the Information Technology Act, 2000 which deals with punishment for publishing or transmitting of material depicting children in sexually explicit act.

As per section 67B of the IT Act, anyone who publishes or transmits or causes to be published or transmitted material in any electronic form which depicts children engaged in sexually explicit act or conduct shall be punished on first conviction with imprisonment of either description for a term which may extend to five years and with fine which may extend to Rs 10 lakh.

“We remain steadfast in our commitment to identifying, investigating, and prosecuting cases involving online child sexual exploitation... And also safeguarding the rights and dignity of children in the digital space,” the official said.
