Delhi Medical Council issues notice over unqualified staff

The Delhi Medical Council (DMC) issued a stern warning on Saturday regarding the employment of unqualified or underqualified medical staff in health facilities here.
In a public notice signed by DMC President Dr Arun Gupta and Registrar Dr Girish Tyagi, the council emphasised that employing medical staff who lack proper qualifications is illegal and punishable. “This is against the law and a punishable act. Therefore, it is requested that all hospital owners please verify the credentials of their employees,” the notice stated.
Dr Tyagi elaborated on the reasons behind the notice, citing the recent arrest of unqualified personnel and a troubling incident at the Baby Care Centre in Vivek Vihar, where a BMS (Bachelor in Medical Science) holder was found working in a role requiring higher qualifications. “The notice is a response to these incidents, underscoring the need for stringent verification of medical staff qualifications,” he told The Tribune.
The DMC also urged visiting doctors to ensure that their patients are under the care of qualified professionals, stressing that doctors would be held accountable for any lapses in patient care resulting from employing unqualified staff. The notice also urged all hospitals, nursing homes and clinical establishments to review their facilities and ensure compliance with all regulatory requirements, including fire safety.
