Intense rainfall struck Delhi-NCR on Monday morning, leading the India Meteorological Department to issue an orange alert for Gurugram and Faridabad. Other parts of the region were placed under a yellow alert.

The alerts come after Ghaziabad was under a red alert and Noida under an orange alert on August 31. Reduced rainfall warnings are set for Gurugram and Faridabad from Tuesday.

The Yamuna River continued to flow above the danger level of 205.33 meters, with visuals indicating a significantly swollen river on Monday.

The river had previously crossed the danger mark a few days ago, with forecasts suggesting a continued upward trend. August saw cooler temperatures in Delhi-NCR, marked by consistent rain spells. The month recorded 400.1mm of rainfall, 72% above the long-term average of 233.1mm, potentially making it the coolest August in 13 years.

The IMD predicts a similar rainy pattern for September, which typically sees 123.5mm of rainfall but recorded 200mm last year.

Delhi’s annual rainfall is projected to surpass 1,000mm this year due to excessive precipitation.
