Delhi Police detain 3 Bangladeshi nationals
The police have detained and deported three Bangladeshi nationals found to be residing illegally in Delhi.
A mother-son duo from Katwaria Sarai were apprehended during evening patrols on December 29. “Our team intercepted a Bangladeshi national, Naim Khan, 22, from Khulna, near Shastri Market,” said Surendra Choudhary, DCP of South West District. Naim admitted to entering India illegally via the West Bengal border in 2020. Further investigation revealed his mother, Nazma Khan (alias Kajol), had been living in Delhi for the past 20 years, working as a domestic servant in the Katwaria Sarai area. Both were detained and deported to Bangladesh.
In a separate case, on December 30, the Sarojini Nagar police arrested Mohd Akhtar Sheikh, another Bangladeshi national. “During an address verification, we found Akhtar Sheikh, a construction labourer, had no valid ID,” DCP Choudhary said.
Sheikh, who confessed to entering India illegally through the Benapole border in 2004, had been living in West Bengal and married a local woman in 2012. He was charged under the Foreigners Act.
