The Delhi Police have refuted claims circulating in a viral video suggesting a “revenge attack” in the Capital related to the Bangladesh issue. The police clarified that the altercation depicted in the video is actually rooted in a land dispute involving a local temple and adjacent properties in North West Motibagh Phase I.
According to Rohit Meena, Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) for South West Delhi, the conflict centres around a land dispute between a temple, the Residents’ Welfare Association (RWA) and the Central Public Works Department (CPWD).
“There is a dispute between the temple, RWA and CPWD over land adjacent to the temple in North West Motibagh,” Meena said.
The dispute came to light when a call was received at 2.45 pm on Sunday from Dayaram, a contractual employee of CPWD, who reported threats made to residents of nearby jhuggis (shanties) to vacate their homes. “These jhuggi residents, who work for CPWD and come from various communities, were threatened to leave the area,” Meena added.
Following the incident, the affected residents have been relocated by CPWD’s Assistant Engineer to an alternative location near Baratghar, Begum Zaidi, about 800 m from their original site.
The DCP assured that “necessary legal action is being taken into the matter” and emphasised that the police are addressing the situation to prevent any escalation.
