Delhi Speaker slams ‘non-responsive babus’ in govt
Delhi Vidhan Sabha Speaker Vijender Gupta has raised serious concerns regarding the growing issue of “non-responsive babudom” within the Delhi Government, alleging that BJP MLAs are facing resistance and lack of cooperation from certain government officials.
In a letter addressed to Chief Secretary Dharmendra on Thursday, Gupta highlighted that the government officials were not following established protocols when dealing with elected representatives. According to the Speaker, BJP MLAs have experienced instances of “non-cooperation,” with official letters, phone calls and messages from the legislators going unanswered by officers concerned.
Calling this a critical matter, Gupta stressed the need for strict adherence to government instructions, as outlined by the General Administration Department of the Delhi government and the Department of Personnel & Training, Government of India. He emphasised that bureaucratic accountability is essential for effective governance and for maintaining the dignity of elected representatives.
In his letter, which was reviewed by The Tribune, Speaker Gupta urged Chief Secretary Dharmendra to ensure that all Administrative Secretaries, Heads of Departments, Delhi Police, Delhi Development Authority (DDA) and other relevant officials are made aware of these protocols. He underscored the importance of transparent, respectful and timely communication between government officials and MLAs in ensuring a functional and responsive democratic system.
