Delhi Commission for Women chairperson Swati Maliwal on Monday wrote to Police Commissioner Sanjay Arora flagging an attack at her residence in the city early morning and sought his intervention to look into the matter given the history of multiple death and rape threats against her.

In a letter to Arora, Maliwal said her residence was attacked by a man on Monday morning who also vandalised her and her mother‘s car parked in the house.

Maliwal said the windshield of the cars were broken with some sharp object and the roof and other parts of the cars were damaged as well.

“The attacker apparently tried to break into the house. Some labourers, who were around, informed my family that the man was carrying a knife. Thankfully, me and my family were not home and were therefore unharmed,” said Maliwal describing the incident as shocking and deeply disturbing.

She said in the past seven years during her tenure as chairperson of the Commission, she had exposed several influential people, busted rackets, and waged a war against trafficking and commercial sexual exploitation of women and girls.

“From exposing prostitution in spas, acting against illegal liquor and drugs, taking action against criminals in online and offline complaints as well as demanding action against several government departments on issues of public interest, I have worked proactively doing my statutory duty fearlessly,” Maliwal said citing several FIRs registered in the past over multiple death and rape threats she received.

Maliwal noted that several people have also been arrested by Delhi police in this regard but added, “Someone today went to the extent of attacking my house and may have even attacked me and my family if we were home. DCP North has said they have apprehended the man who attacked my house. However, I request you to look into the matter and take requisite action,” Maliwal urged Arora.
