A 20-year-old man, who was denied a "salary hike" at his workplace, planned and committed a theft of Rs 6 lakh and other expensive items, a senior police officer said on Tuesday. The accused, identified as Hasan Khan, was arrested.
Deputy Commissioner of Police (West) Vichitra Veer said on December 31, Rs 6 lakh in cash and various electronics were stolen from a bike showroom. Later, the police registered an FIR and formed a team to investigate the case, he added.
During the investigation, the cops conducted technical surveillance, analysing over 100 CCTV cameras and interrogated the showroom staff, identifying one employee, namely Hasan Khan, as a suspect.
"We apprehended Hasan and during the inquiry, cash worth around Rs 5 lakh and two expensive cameras were recovered at his instance," the DCP said.
During the interrogation, it was revealed that the accused, a technical expert, had intentionally turned off the showroom's lights on the day of the theft to avoid being identified and had also worn a helmet.
"His dissatisfaction with the management's refusal to increase his pay had led him to plan and commit the theft," the DCP said.
