Development Works to Begin in 105 'Unauthorized' Colonies and Villages- Regularization Drive

Since 2021, 81 unauthorised residential colonies have been regularised and 24 villages have been incorporated under the civic body’s ambit. However, work on installing basic infrastructure has been delayed due to problems such as budget constraints, technical surveys and the election process this year, according to reports.

The Municipal Corporation Faridabad (MCF) has now been directed by the ULB to prepare a detailed project report (DPR) to kickstart the project. Sources within the civic body reveal while the DPR preparation may take three to four months, the consultant company already hired by MCF has been asked to work on the report and budget.

Haryana's ULB Minister, Vipul Goel, organised a meeting with department officials on November 22 and instructed them to start the infrastructure work in the newly regularised colonies without further delay. While some areas have seen partial work, like the installation of interlocking tiles, the full-scale infrastructure work is expected to begin by the end of March next year, according to a senior official.

As per the officials, 22 colonies were included in the initial list of regularisation, with an additional 59 colonies added in July last year. The infrastructure work planned for these colonies includes the installation of sewage lines, water supply systems, road construction and the development of parks, street lighting and community centers.

A survey conducted by the District Town Planning (DTP) office identified around 553 illegal colonies. However, based on eligibility criteria, the number was reduced to 418, with 81 colonies selected for regularisation in the first phase.

The work is also pending in 24 villages that were included within the city's civic limits in 2021. Residents of these villages, like Jaswant Yadav from Chandawali village, have expressed frustration over problems such as poor sanitation, lack of drinking water, drainage problems and inadequate garbage and sewage disposal services.

Birender Kardam, Chief Engineer at MCF, confirmed that the task of preparing the DPR has been assigned to the consultant agency.
