Congress candidate Sandeep Dikshit from the New Delhi Assembly launched a sharp attack on AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal, accusing him of making false claims and questioning his credibility on Friday.

Dikshit, who had previously invited Kejriwal to an open debate via a letter on January 29, termed the former Delhi Chief Minister’s statements as absurd and misleading.

Dikshit, an engineer by profession, expressed disbelief at Kejriwal’s remarks, saying, “Being an engineer, he is saying such absurd things that a student of Class 5 or 6 would not say. What had he done? I think he passed his exams by cheating… I’ll suggest he should go through his engineering books – he will come to know how much he lies.”

The Congress leader also challenged Kejriwal’s claims of progress under his leadership in Delhi.

“Kejriwal said he has done so much work. I have just said that whatever you say, say it with a record. Today, at 3 pm, it will be clear that whether the Congress or AAP is speaking the truth,” Dikshit said.

Dikshit further accused both AAP and BJP of distributing cash to sway voters, questioning whether they were engaged in politics or simply running a market.

The debate, set for 3 pm at Jantar Mantar, saw Kejriwal’s absence, leading Dikshit to mock the AAP leader’s failure to show up.

“We waited for 45 minutes for our former CM, but it seems like he couldn’t make it. I even called the Delhi Police to check if he had been arrested again as he keeps claiming that he might be arrested anytime of day,” Dikshit joked.

Later, Dikshit took to X to pose two critical questions to Kejriwal: “You say in a podcast that 10,000 km of road was built in Delhi. But when the total road length in Delhi is only 4,000 km, where did this calculation of 10,000 come from? Installed power capacity was 9,32,000 KWH in 2009-10. It increased to 22,15,580 KWH in 2013-14 and 23,97,000 KWH in 2023-24. Kejriwal, your failed government could only increase the installed power capacity by 8% in 10 years?”
