New Delhi, August 28
The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) has launched a special drive across all its lines to prevent the unlawful entry of male passengers into women’s coaches during weekdays. The initiative began on Tuesday, according to officials.
“The special drive involves 10 flying squads, each consisting of personnel from the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF), Delhi Metro Rail Police (DMRP) and DMRC. These squads will conduct surprise checks throughout the day to monitor and prevent unauthorised entry of male passengers into women’s coaches and address any instances of misbehaviour. The goal is to ensure that women commuters feel safe and comfortable while traveling on Metro,” an official said.
Male passengers found violating the rules or disobeying instructions from the flying squads, or refusing to pay the Rs 250 fine, will be de-boarded and handed over to the DMRP.
On the first day of the drive, 108 male passengers were counselled and deboarded from the women’s coach, while 32 others were fined under the Delhi Metro (Operation and Maintenance) Act.
The DMRC has conducted similar drives in the past to enhance the safety of women passengers. Women commuters can also report any misbehaviour or unauthorised entry by male passengers into the women’s coach on the DMRC’s 24x7 helpline number 155370.
