It was a horrible sight to see when Mohinder Singh’s daughter-in-law entered their flat in Pitampura’s Kohat enclave on Tuesday morning.

Singh’s driver and maid, who were first to arrive in the morning, repeatedly rang the doorbell, which went unanswered. Sensing something suspicious and unpleasant, they alerted Singh’s son and daughter-in-law who resided in the adjacent building.

Singh’s daughter-in-law, along with the maid, went to the third floor. She forcibly entered the house, just to find both her in-laws mercilessly hacked to death.

Singh was lying dead on the bed with his face covered with a pillow. There was dried blood around his nose and mouth and ligature marks around his neck due to strangulation. A nebuliser pipe was found wrapped around his neck. The entire house was filled with a foul smell.

When she entered another room, she was shocked to find her mother-in-law’s body. The killer had smashed her head with an iron rod, breaking her skull into two parts. Kohlat enclave in Pitampura, which is considered an upscale locality, was shocked after the brutal double murder of the elderly couple.

“If this happens in such a posh locality, how will others stay here?” Singh’s brother questioned while talking to the mediapersons. He said the killer had ransacked the entire house and even broke the almirah.

Chanpreet Singh, son of the victims, said the attendant, who was hired recently, was recommended by a worker who had performed the duties two month earlier, before taking a break.

The CCTV footage of the colony showed that the attendant left the house at 5.30 am carrying a backpack, which the cops suspect contained the looted valuables and cash. A manhunt is underway to nab him.
