Drive to provide shelter to stray cattle launched in Delhi
The government has unveiled a comprehensive plan to address the issue of stray cattle on the city’s roads, with Development Minister Kapil Mishra announcing a new initiative aimed at ensuring safe and permanent shelter for the animals.
In a high-level meeting held with officials from the (MCD) and the Animal Husbandry Department on Wednesday, Mishra emphasised the urgent need to protect stray cattle while improving road safety and public hygiene in the national capital.
“We are starting from zero when it comes to cattle protection,” Mishra said. “Under the leadership of CM Rekha Gupta, our government is determined to ensure a dignified life for every stray animal in Delhi.”
The plan includes upgrading existing cowsheds (gaushalas) with modern facilities such as clean water, sanitation, and ample fodder. Authorities will ensure regular monitoring of these shelters and hold operators accountable for negligence.
