Hours after sitting BJP MLA from Karawal Nagar Mohan Singh Bisht criticised party leadership for dropping him for Kapil Mishra in the segment, he was fielded from the Mustafabad segment.

Bisht is a senior MLA and was elected from the Karawal Nagar seat in 2008, 2013 and 2020. In 2015, Mishra, then in Aam Aadmi Party, had defeated Bisht from the constituency.

In 2020, however, Bisht made a comeback defeating AAP's Durgesh Pathak from the same seat. He was expecting a re-nomination for the February 5 elections, but the BJP Central Election Committee dropped him and fielded Mishra instead in the second list of candidates announced yesterday.

Slamming the BJP decision, Bisht said this was “a mistake”. He said he would file a nomination from the Karawal Nagar seat. The BJP, however, placated him today by fielding him from Mustafabad.

The party has now announced 59 candidates for the 70-member Delhi Assembly.
