The Delhi University Students Union (DUSU) Election Committee on Thursday clarified that candidates contesting in the upcoming DUSU elections would only need to submit an affidavit and a bail bond of Rs 1 lakh. They are not required to deposit the amount in the university’s or their own accounts. The bail bond can be signed by parents, guardians, friends or supporters.
“The information was conveyed by the Chief Election Officer (CEO) of DUSU elections, Prof Raj Kishore Sharma, at a presser. Chief Presiding Officer Dr Rajesh Singh said all wanted fair and transparent polling, and that everyone’s cooperation was expected to this end.
Green, clean elections
The election committee has declared that the DUSU elections will be conducted as “green and clean elections”, with “zero tolerance towards defacement and violation of guidelines.”
Regarding campaigning, the CEO said, “Only handmade posters are allowed for canvassing and they can be pasted only on designated walls. Any act of defacement may be reported on DUSU’s online portal and, in case of colleges, on those portals.”
Monitors to keep vigil
The election committee, along with other bodies such as the committee for prevention of defacement, discipline committees, student grievance cell, the university proctorial board, Delhi Police and civic agencies, will closely monitor the election process.
Prof Sharma appreciated the students’ cooperation in maintaining the law and order and avoiding defacement activities.
A team of observers will begin visiting colleges and nearby areas from Monday to prevent any violation of election guidelines.
