The University of Delhi has issued a fresh notification revising its promotion and assessment policies under the National Education Policy’s Undergraduate Curriculum Framework (UGCF) 2022. The previous notification, dated July 21, 2025, on the criteria will now be enforced from the academic session 2025–26, instead of 2024–25.

For students admitted in the 2024–25 session, the existing rule of scoring the minimum 50% marks in each paper will continue to determine promotion to the next semester. The University confirmed that the decision had been approved by the competent authority and circulated to all colleges, faculties, departments and branches.

The DU has also announced a detailed framework for internal assessment (IA), tutorials and practical courses, aiming to bring uniformity under both UGCF-2022 and the upcoming Postgraduate Curriculum Framework (PGCF) 2025.

According to the notification, IA will carry 25% weightage in each paper as per Ordinance VIII-E. The evaluation will be based on class tests, assignments, projects, seminars, fieldwork and attendance. Tutorials will be assessed through continuous evaluation, with one credit carrying 40 marks. Students, in consultation with teachers, may choose from a variety of activities such as literature or movie reviews, group projects, creative writing, problem-solving exercises, or innovative projects. Tutorial attendance will also be graded, with up to five marks awarded depending on the attendance percentage.

For theory courses, IA will form 25% of the total marks. For example, in a four-credit course worth 160 marks, 120 marks are assigned to theory, of which 90 are for exam and 30 for IA. The IA will be further divided into attendance (6 marks), class test (12 marks) and assignments/presentations (12 marks).

Practical courses will follow a blended evaluation model. In four-credit practical courses, 25% weightage is assigned to continuous evaluation, 50% to end-term practical exams and 25% to viva voce. A similar pattern will apply to two-credit practical courses, with proportionate distribution.

The university has also standardised credit structures under the PGCF-2025, making IA constitute 25% of the theory marks at the postgraduate level. The same assessment structure may also be extended to PhD coursework, ensuring consistency across academic programmes.

By integrating theory, tutorials and practical evaluation into a uniform weighted system, the DU seeks to strengthen academic rigour while allowing students flexible and diverse modes of assessment.
