The Congress-affiliated National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) managed to retain only the vice-president’s position.
Aryan Maan of ABVP emerged as the new president, defeating NSUI’s Joslyn Nandita Choudhary by a margin of 16,196 votes.
Aryan secured 28,841 votes, while Joslyn managed 12,645. Last year, NSUI’s Ronak Khatri had managed to win the president’s post after a gap of seven years, alongside the joint secretary’s seat, while ABVP held on to the vice-president and secretary’s positions. However, this year ABVP bounced back strongly, clinching the president, secretary, and joint secretary posts.
According to official results, Aryan Maan of ABVP was elected president with 28,841 votes out of 59,882 polled. The vice-president’s post went to NSUI’s Rahul Jhansla Yadav, who secured 29,339 votes out of 59,869. The secretary’s seat was won by ABVP’s Kunal Choudhary with 23,779 votes out of 59,863, while ABVP’s Deepika Jha defeated Lavkush Bhadana and got elected as joint secretary. She got 21,825 votes out of 59,919.
The high-pitched political battle witnessed a turnout of 39.45 per cent on Thursday, reflecting a slight increase in student participation compared to the previous year.
While ABVP emerged as the dominant force, the Left alliance of All India Students Association and Students’ Federation of India once again failed to secure any position.
BJP president JP Nadda described the ABVP’s win in DUSU polls as a reflection that the youth are embracing “nation first ideology”.
Union Home Minister Amit Shah posted his congratulations on ABVP’s win.
“This win reflects the unwavering faith of the youth in the ideology of ‘Nation First.’ I am confident that this triumph will further accelerate ABVP’s journey of transforming student power into national strength,” Shah said.
NSUI national president Varun Choudhary took to X and said the organisation fought well in an odd election not just against the ABVP, but against the combined force of the DU administration, Delhi government, central government, RSS-BJP and Delhi Police.
“Yet thousands of DU students stood firmly with us and our candidates fought well. Best wishes to Rahul Jhansla, newly elected DUSU vice president from NSUI panel, and to all other office bearers who won. Win or loss, NSUI will always fight for common students, their issues & to save DU. We will only grow stronger,” he said.
Deepender Singh Hooda, MP from Rohtak, also congratulated Rahul Jhansla Yadav for winning the vice-president’s post.
ABVP’s emphatic victory meanwhile also drew applause from Delhi Chief Minister Rekha Gupta who said, “I warmly congratulate ABVP on their remarkable victory in the elections. This success reflects the unwavering faith of our youth in values of discipline, service, and nation-first ideology.”
