Thousands of Congress workers, led by Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee (DPCC) president Devender Yadav, marched from the AICC headquarters on Akbar Road to the Enforcement Directorate’s (ED) office on Lodhi Road on Wednesday, protesting against the chargesheet filed against former party president Sonia Gandhi and Leader of Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi in the National Herald case.

Calling the ED case “false and politically motivated,” Yadav accused the BJP-led Central Government of using investigative agencies as weapons to intimidate opposition leaders.

“This chargesheet is the outcome of a political vendetta. It’s like the Modi government is using ED as a private tool to crush dissent. But Congress workers will not remain silent. Every Congress worker today is Rahul Gandhi, and we are ready to face this challenge unitedly,” he said.

The protesters raised slogans such as “bipaksh par ED ka waar, Modi-Shah ka rajnaitik hathiyar” and “jo toofano se takraate hain, woh ED se nahin khaabrate.”

Yadav claimed that the case was fabricated and based on no financial wrongdoing. He also alleged that ED and CBI cases conveniently vanish once targeted leaders join the BJP, exposing the selective nature of these probes. “This is an open assault on India’s federal structure,” he added.

The Delhi Police halted the march near the ED office. Several senior Congress leaders were detained and taken to the Jaffarpur Kalan police station in Najafgarh.

Prominent leaders who participated in the protest included former MPs Sandeep Dikshit and Udit Raj, All-India Mahila Congress president Alka Lamba, former ministers Narendra Nath, Kiran Walia, Yoganand Shastri and several former MLAs, councillors and youth and women’s wing leaders.

Centre misusing agencies: NSUI

New Delhi: The National Students’ Union of India (NSUI) on Wednesday staged a protest in the national capital against the ED’s chargesheet in the National Herald case. Led by NSUI national president Varun Choudhary, the protest saw hundreds of student activists and youth leaders from Congress-affiliated organisations marching and raising slogans against what they termed as the “BJP government’s political vendetta.”

Addressing the gathering, Choudhary said: “The moment Rahul Gandhi started raising critical issues such as paper leaks and student concerns in Gujarat, the BJP government launched a direct attack on him through the ED. This chargesheet is not about justice, it’s about silencing those who question the government.”

He alleged that the BJP was using investigative agencies to crush dissent and suppress the growing popularity of Rahul Gandhi and the INDIA alliance. “This is not just a case against two individuals, it’s a calculated attack on democratic principles and constitutional values,” Choudhary said.
