A 32-year-old engineer has been accused of fatally pushing his partner off the sixth floor of a building during an altercation, after she discovered he was planning to marry someone else, the police said on Wednesday.
The incident took place on Tuesday in the Narela area of Outer North Delhi.
The victim, identified as 27-year-old Sadhana Singh, was a fashion design student from Faridabad, Haryana. According to officials, she had previously lived with the accused, Deepak, in Noida. Deepak, who recently started a new job in Kondli, Delhi, had been living on the sixth floor of a residential building in Narela.
The police said Sadhana, a native of Aligarh, Uttar Pradesh, often visited Deepak’s residence. She had arrived at his flat a day before the incident. During her stay, she reportedly learnt that Deepak’s parents had recently met a prospective bride for him, leading to a heated argument.
“This turned into a physical altercation, during which he allegedly pushed her from the balcony,” a senior police officer said.
A case under Section 103(1) (murder) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita has been registered. Deepak is currently being interrogated, confirmed Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Swami.
The body has been sent for a postmortem to determine the exact cause of death. Forensic teams have examined the scene.
