In his complaint to the Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North), Khatri said, “I received a threat call from an international number around 12:44 pm on September 29. The caller, claimed association with gangster Rohit Godara, demanded an extortion money of Rs 5 crore. He threatened to kill me if the money is not paid.”

“Immediately after the call, I also received a message from the same number repeating the demand and the death threat,” the complaint further read.

In his complaint, the former DUSU president said: “This incident is not only a case of serious criminal intimidation and extortion but also raises grave concerns regarding my personal safety and that of my family. I firmly believe that this threat is directly connected to my growing public and political presence, and is a deliberate attempt to create fear, obstruct my activities and exploit my situation”.

He urged the police to provide immediate protection and initiate an action under the relevant Sections of the IPC and IT Act. A purported photo of the chat has gone viral on social media, where the person can be seen demanding Rs 5 crore from Khatri.

Confirming the receipt of the complaint, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Outer North) Hareshwar Shwami said: “We have received a complaint of extortion from Ronak Khatri today at 2:52 pm, via mail, necessary action will be taken.”

Ronak Khatri, a member of the Congress-backed National Students’ Union of India (NSUI), won the president post in the 2024 DUSU elections.

Notably, his short videos were viral on social media where he raised several student issues in the university during his term in the Delhi University Students’ Union office.
