Faridabad medical college to get 50-bed critical care unit
In a move set to benefit thousands of people in Faridabad and surrounding areas, Atal Bihari Medical College and Hospital in Chhainsa village is set to launch a critical care unit (CCU). The Haryana Government has approved the establishment of a 50-bed CCU at the facility, which has already completed all preparatory work.
The tender process has been finalised and the hospital management is ready to appoint doctors and begin infrastructure development. “We’ve been waiting for this approval for a long time and our plan is ready. We can now move forward with building the workforce and infrastructure. The CCU will significantly strengthen the healthcare system in the region, as we are also receiving patients from neighbouring districts,” said Dr BM Vashishth, Director of Shri Atal Bihari Medical College and Hospital.
The medical college and hospital, which was established in 2021 after the state government took over a private institution that shut down in 2015 due to financial difficulties, is located about 20 km from Faridabad’s district headquarters. This is only the second government medical institution in the district, following the ESIC Medical College and Hospital.
While initially operating as a Covid-19 hospital, the facility began offering outpatient department (OPD) services in 2022 and started work on setting up inpatient department (IPD) services. Emergency (casualty) services were launched in April 2024. The hospital, which currently employs over 200 nursing staff, is equipped with ultrasound and CT-MRI machines under a public-private partnership (PPP) model.
Dr Vashishth said all tests for patients at the hospital would be free of charge. With the new CCU, the hospital would be better equipped to handle a range of critical care needs, benefiting both the local community and people from neighbouring regions.
