Fire breaks out at coaching centre, hotel; no casualties

Two separate fire incidents - one at a coaching institute in Old Rajinder Nagar and another at a hotel in Paschim Vihar - were reported from Delhi on Sunday. However, no injuries or casualties were reported in either of the incidents, officials from the Delhi Fire Services (DFS) confirmed.

The first incident took place at a coaching centre located on the fourth and fifth floors of a multi-storey building on Bada Bazar Road in Old Rajinder Nagar, Central Delhi. The DFS received a distress call at 11:08 am, following which eight fire tenders were pressed into service. The blaze was brought under control by 12:20 pm.

“The incident caused panic among students and staff, but everyone was safely evacuated,” a DFS official said. Preliminary investigation suggests an electrical short circuit may have triggered the fire. A detailed inquiry is underway.

A couple of hours later, another fire was reported at a hotel near the East Paschim Vihar Metro station in west Delhi. The fire, which broke out around 1:15 pm, was confined to a room and a hall on the third floor of the building. The hotel comprises a basement, ground floor, and three upper floors.

Five fire tenders were pressed into service. The flames were doused by 1:50 pm. “The fire was quickly contained and no injuries were reported,” DFS officials confirmed. The cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained.

Both incidents highlight the importance of strict fire safety norms, especially in densely populated commercial buildings like coaching centres and hotels. The authorities have initiated investigations in both cases.
