Five pedestrians hurt as mini-truck jumps divider, rams into car

A late-night outing turned tragic in northeast Delhi’s Seelampur when a speeding mini-truck jumped a divider, rammed into a car and then hit five pedestrians who were allegedly eating ice-cream, the police said on Sunday.

The accident took place around 12.04 am on 66 Foota Road when the driver of a Tata 407 truck allegedly lost control of the vehicle near Sanatan Dharm Mandir. According to the police, the vehicle veered off its lane, jumped the divider, rammed into a car and then hit five pedestrians standing nearby on the roadside.

The injured persons have been identified as Noorie (27), Afsari (55), Haseen, alias Sonu (25), Mehak (18) and Foolbi (25), all residents of New Seelampur. The victims were rushed to LNJP Hospital where they are undergoing treatment.

After getting information, the police reached the spot and impounded the truck. The driver was arrested and forensic experts were called to examine the spot. A case has been registered under Sections 281 (rash driving on a public way) and 125(a) of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).

Further investigation is underway to reconstruct the exact sequence of events leading to the incident.
