Four Delhi schools get bomb threats

For the third consecutive day on Wednesday, four schools - St Thomas School, Vasant Valley, Mother International School and Richmond Global School - in the national capital received bomb threats, which later turned out to be hoaxes.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said a 12-year-old boy was detained for sending threats to St Thomas School and St Stephens College on July 15 in a bid to force a holiday.

He was counselled and handed over to family. He is not enrolled in any of the aforementioned institutions, the DCP added.

Singh asked parents and students not to panic as the police were following the standard procedures.

According to Fire Service officials, a call regarding the email threatening to blow up St Thomas School in Dwarka was received at 5.26 am by the fire control, Vasant Valley School in Vasant Kunj at 6.30 am, Mother International in Hauz Khas at 8.12 am and Richmond Global School in Paschim Vihar at 8.11 am.

After getting information, SHOs concerned, along with their staff, immediately rushed to the schools. A Bomb Disposal Team (BDT) and a fire tender were also sent to the spots.

They conducted a thorough and comprehensive search of the entire school buildings and open areas. However, no suspicious object or substance was found, said another police official.

The general public, school staff, students and parents are requested not to panic as the situation is under control.

This series of threats is similar to last year wherein several schools, colleges and other establishments received bomb-related threats on email in a similar way. However, nothing suspicious was found at that time too.
