Fraudster dupes man of Rs 2.63 L by posing as EV firm manager
New Delhi, July 7
A man posing as a manager of an electric scooter company was arrested for allegedly duping a private hospital manager of Rs 2.63 lakh, the police said on Sunday. He also sold bank details of buyers for a commission of 20-30 per cent, the police added.
According to the police, the fraudster targeted the hospital manager while the latter was searching for electric scooters and bikes for hospital use. He offered the victim electric vehicles (EVs) at a discounted rate.
The accused, identified as Summy Kumar Agnihotry (35) from Dhanbad, Jharkhand, misrepresented himself to gain trust and then exploited the situation for financial gain.
He allegedly sent fake quotations for electric scooters to the victim. He was arrested from Dhanbad on Saturday.
“A cyber complaint was received in the Dwarka cyber police station that the complainant was searching on web for buying electric scooters and bikes for hospital use,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Dwarka) Ankit Singh said.
The fraudster approached the complainant and sent a fake initial quotation of electric bikes and scooters amounting Rs 1.18 lakh, Singh said.
The officer said the complainant agreed to purchase eight electric bikes and scooters, paid Rs 2.25 lakh, including a booking amount, and some other payments. In total, he sent Rs 2.63 lakh to the account provided by Agnihotry.
“Later, he switched off his mobile and the complainant realised that he was caught in a scam,” the DCP said.
The police said non-bailable warrants were issued against him on July 3. The DCP said though the money had not been recovered from Agnihotry, the police got to know that he is a member of a gang and teams were working to nab the other members.
