Senior AAP leader and Delhi Minister Atishi thanked Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal for showing confidence in her and choosing her as his successor on Tuesday.

“I thank Arvind Kejriwal for showing confidence in me. I don't think this could happen in any other party than AAP,” she said.

In the legislative party meeting, while, the AAP MLAs asked Kejriwal to continue as CM; he proposed Atishi's name which was unanimously agreed by all legislators.

Atishi will take oath as the next CM in the coming days, after Kejriwal will tender his resignation to Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena.

“I come from a very simple family. If I would have been in any other party, I wouldn't have even got a poll ticket. However, Arvind Kejriwal trusted me, made me an MLA, minister and today gave me a responsibility to become the CM,” said Atishi.

“It is a sad day because my elder brother Arvind Kejriwal will resign from the CM's post,” she added.

The Delhi Minister said that Kejriwal's resignation from CM post is unparalleled in the history of the country's democracy.

Atishi said she will work under Kejriwal’s guidance, and protect the people of Delhi. “I will work for the next few months towards the goal of bringing back Kejriwal as Delhi chief minister,” said the AAP leader.

“Delhi has only one CM and his name is Arvind Kejriwal,” she added.
