Golcha assumes charge as Delhi Police Commissioner

A day after his appointment order, senior IPS officer Satish Golcha on Friday took charge as the Delhi Police Commissioner at the Police Headquarters on the Jai Singh road.

Golcha, a 1992-batch IPS officer of the AGMUT (Arunachal Pradesh, Goa, Mizoram and Union Territory) cadre, replaced SBK Singh, who was given as additional charge of the Delhi Police Commissioner after Sanjay Arora’s retirement on July 31.

Prior to this appointment, Golcha was serving as the Director General (Prisons), Delhi, which he initially took in an interim capacity amidst rising jail violence and gang-related unrest. However, the posting was later regularised.

After assuming charge, he met Chief Minister Rekha Gupta at her office. The top cop also held a meeting with senior officers to review the law-and-order situation in the national capital.

In his first interaction with senior officials after assuming charge, Golcha directed the force to remain vigilant, focus on crime prevention and ensure better policing.

Golcha is not a new face in the Delhi Police as he has previously served in several key roles in the Capital’s police force, including Special CP (Intelligence), Joint CP (Eastern Range) and DCP. In 2020, Golcha was Special CP (Law & Order) when northeast Delhi riots occurred. He was also posted as the Director General of Police in Arunachal Pradesh.

The appointment from the AGMUT cadre comes after four years. Golcha is the 26th Commissioner of Delhi Police.
