Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has issued an order terminating all co-terminus appointments in the offices of the former Chief Minister and Cabinet Ministers, officials said on Friday.
According to the order issued by the Services Department, the termination of these appointments is in line with established government norms that dictate the automatic dissolution of such positions upon the resignation or replacement of a sitting CM and Ministers.
“Formation of newly elected government warrants fresh appointment of staff of all categories as appointments automatically get terminated on resignation of the then Chief Minister and Ministers. Accordingly, the deployment and appointment of officers has to take place afresh after taking oath and assumption of office by the new CM and Cabinet Ministers.” the order read.
The government cited a directive from the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT), dated November 7, 2022, which clarifies that personal staff posts in ministerial offices are created for the tenure of the respective ministers and are abolished once they demit office.
However, regular staff belonging to Delhi, Andaman & Nicobar, Lakshadweep, Daman and Diu and Dadra and Nagar Haveli (Civil) Services (DANICS), Delhi Subordinate Services (DSS), Steno cadre will continue working in their respective offices until further government directives.
Additionally, the directive issued by Deputy Secretary (Services) Bhairab Dutt mandates that officials and staff of government departments who had been deployed in the offices of the CM and Ministers in a diverted capacity must return to their respective departments.
