Govt plans monthly aid distribution camps for persons with disabilities

The Delhi Government will organise monthly distribution and assessment camps for persons with disabilities or divyangjans under the Sugamya Sahayak Yojana, Social Welfare Minister Ravinder Indraj Singh announced on Thursday.

Speaking at a distribution event held at Maharishi Valmiki Hospital, the Minister handed over tricycles and other assistive devices to beneficiaries. He stated that starting from July 10, the Social Welfare Department will conduct distribution camps on the 10th of every month to ensure that no eligible individual is left out.

“Under the visionary leadership of Prime Minister Modi and his resolve for an Empowered Divyang, Capable Bharat, approximately 400 assistive devices have been distributed across all 10 districts of Delhi in the past three months,” said Singh.

To make the scheme more accessible, monthly assessment camps will also commence from July 2025. While each camp will be hosted in a different district every month, eligible persons from across the city will be allowed to attend, with no restriction based on residence.

The minister stressed the government’s commitment to responsiveness, announcing that the long-vacant statutory post of State Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, unfilled for the last one and a half years, will now be filled.

He also stated that he recently visited the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation of India facility in Kanpur to assess the production of high-quality assistive devices.
