The beats of live concerts are set to grow louder in the national capital. In a move that could transform Delhi’s nightlife and entertainment scene, the Delhi Government on Friday signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with BookMyShow Live to boost the Capital’s live entertainment sector.
The agreement, signed under the aegis of the Department of Art, Culture and Tourism, aims to position Delhi as a global hub for live entertainment and concerts with the concert economy expected to contribute Rs 3,000 crore to the city’s economy in the next two years. The announcement was made at a joint press conference held at Hyatt Hotel in the presence of Art, Culture and Tourism Minister Kapil Mishra, New Delhi MP Bansuri Swaraj, senior officials from BookMyShow, the Delhi Police, and representatives from the Event and Entertainment Management Association (EEMA).
Calling the move a “turning point for Delhi’s cultural future”, Mishra said: “Prime Minister Narendra Modi has given the country a visionary outlook for the concert economy, and Chief Minister Rekha Gupta has taken it forward with full commitment. Delhi will now become the heartbeat of India’s live entertainment scene.” He said the Capital would soon be equipped to host some of the world’s biggest shows, with improved infrastructure, modern venues, and single-window clearances for event organisers.
“In the coming two years, we aim to add Rs 3,000 crore to Delhi’s economy through live entertainment. The time has come for Delhi to be known not just for politics, but for culture, creativity, and celebration,” Mishra said.
He thanked Union Minister Mansukh Mandaviya and the Sports Authority of India for helping resolve issues around venue rentals, opening doors for more large-scale events in the capital. Mishra said Delhi would lead the country’s cultural transformation.
“New Delhi will be the creative capital of India. The face of Developed India 2047 will emerge from here,” he said, adding that new venues, a modern riverfront, and upgraded infrastructure would define Delhi’s identity in the next few years.
He called on artists, event organisers, and designers to join hands in making Delhi the “cultural capital of the world”.
Echoing similar sentiments, MP Bansuri Swaraj said: “Delhi is not just India’s Capital but it is its heart. This partnership between the Delhi Government and BookMyShow will open new doors for young people in entertainment, innovation, and the creative economy.”
Over 30 national and international events are already in the pipeline for the coming months, expected to bring in major tourism revenue and employment opportunities.
