Constable Ajay Singh of Gurugram police was crushed to death by a speeding truck at a checkpoint near the Gwal Pahari area on Faridabad road during the wee hours of Thursday. The driver fled the spot and an FIR was registered at DLF Phase-I police station.
According to the police, the deceased constable, Ajay Kumar (31), was a resident of Kumroda village in Rewari district. He had joined Haryana Police in 2019 and was currently posted as a constable at the Gwal Pahari police chowki. He got married eight months ago.
According to the complaint, filed by head constable Rohit Kumar, he along with constables Ajay, Devendra and home guards Sanjay and Walid were checking vehicles going from Gurugram to Faridabad at a check post in front of the Gwal Pahari chowki on Wednesday night.
“At around 2.30am on Thursday, we stopped a pickup truck and were checking its documents. Constable Ajay was standing behind the truck. At around 2.35 am, a speeding tuck approaching the post from Gurugram was signalled to stop, but the driver didn’t stop and rammed into the barricades on the left side of the road. He dragged the barricades with the vehicle and hit and crushed Ajay. The vehicle overturned, its fuel tank exploded and the driver fled. We rushed Ajay to a nearby hospital, where the doctors declared him dead,” said Rohit, in his complaint.
The Gurugram police arrested the driver, Shakti (24), a resident of village Nimodh in district Sikar, Rajasthan, on Thursday evening.
