A day after the alleged attack on his vehicle during election canvassing, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal on Sunday said the kind of campaign being witnessed this time is unprecedented in Delhi. He added that his life was dedicated to the country, but the level of violence, including attempt to assassinate a former Chief Minister, has never been seen before in Delhi.
Meanwhile, AAP leaders have alleged a sinister conspiracy involving BJP leaders in the recent attack on Kejriwal.
They presented video evidences and photographs purportedly linking the assailants to BJP leader Parvesh Verma, accusing the BJP of orchestrating politically motivated violence ahead of elections.
During a press conference, Delhi CM Atishi claimed that the attack was carried out by “hardened criminals” closely associated with BJP leaders. She identified three individuals — Rahul, alias Shanky, Rohit Tyagi, and Sumit — accusing them of having extensive criminal records, including charges of robbery, attempted murder and dacoity.
“The individuals involved in the attack are not just BJP workers but criminals with serious cases registered against them,” said Atishi.
She cited incidents where these individuals allegedly attacked Kejriwal’s convoy.
She highlighted Rahul’s criminal background, mentioning cases of dacoity, conspiracy, and violations of the Arms Act. Similar allegations were made against Rohit Tyagi and Sumit, with details of their involvement in violent crimes.
Manish Sisodia accused the BJP of orchestrating the attack due to fear of electoral defeat. “The BJP is losing badly and has resorted to plotting Kejriwal’s assassination,” he posted on X.
Alleging Delhi Police’s complicity, Rajya Sabha MP Sanjay Singh termed the attack an 'assassination attempt'. He said: "The BJP, gripped by fear, is resorting to violence and hooliganism. This is a direct attempt to silence Kejriwal."
AAP leaders also urged the Election Commission and the Delhi Police to take immediate action against the alleged attackers and ensure Kejriwal’s safety. They questioned the silence of authorities despite video evidence and accused the BJP of fostering a culture of violence.
“The EC has the power to act but remains silent. We demand strict action against these individuals and those shielding them,” said Atishi.
