Heavy rain followed by waterlogging leads to traffic congestion on Southern Peripheral Road in Gurugram
Gurugram, July 24
While heavy rain on Thursday morning led to many areas around Southern Peripheral Road (SPR) in Gurugram being submerged in water it led to major traffic congestion on various stretches like Golf Course, Golf Course Extension Road and Sohna road.
These stretches lie on the SPR, one of the most important roads of Millennium City. This stretch of road originates from Gurugram-Faridabad road near Sector 58 and connects with NH 48 near Sector 74-A, meeting Sohna Road at Badshahpur Chowk on the way.
Owing to heavy waterlogging and vehicles breaking down, despite Gurugram police’s best efforts, congestion was witnessed on the busy roads during office hours.
People took to social media to express their angst. Majority of them highlighted how the stretch which generally takes only 20 minutes couldn’t be crossed even in an hour. Many people headed from Faridabad to Gurugram claimed it took them around three hours to reach their destination.
Waterlogging and jam in Gurugram also trended on X.
Meanwhile, Gurugram traffic police has blamed lack of proper drainage as key reason behind congestion in stretch. They claimed that heavy waterlogging inundated the entire road.
Gurugram traffic in charge, East Zone 4, Inspector Indu said that the traffic officials have been highlighting the crises to the civic authorities since many days.
