Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s plea seeking two additional meetings with his lawyers during judicial custody will be heard by the Delhi High Court on July 8.

Justice Neena Bansal Krishna will preside over the hearing. Kejriwal is facing around 30 litigations nationwide and requires the extra meetings via video conferencing to ensure a fair trial.

The trial court previously dismissed his plea, stating no new grounds were presented to reconsider the April 10, 2024, order. The trial court also refused Kejriwal’s request for his wife to be present during his medical consultations.

The court emphasised adherence to Prison Rules, noting, “This court sees no reason to carve out an exception for the applicant by going against the Prison Rules.” It cited Rule 479 (C) of the Delhi Prison Rules, 2018, which allows a family member’s presence only if the prisoner is hospitalized outside jail.

However, the court permitted Kejriwal’s wife to independently consult with the medical board regarding his diet. It also directed jail authorities to provide Kejriwal’s medical records to his wife.

The petition is related to the excise policy money laundering and corruption case, where the ED and CBI have alleged irregularities.
