Around 120 daily domestic flights of Air India and IndiGo will shift operations to the upgraded Terminal 2 of Delhi’s Indira Gandhi International Airport from the intervening night of October 25-26, officials of GMR AERO-led Delhi International Airport Limited (DIAL) said on Monday.

The upgraded Terminal 2 will resume operations from October 26, coinciding with the beginning of the winter schedule.

The terminal, built by the Airports Authority of India nearly four decades ago, was closed in April for a comprehensive upgrade after Terminal 1 became fully operational. With the shift, DIAL said passenger handling would be streamlined and travel experience enhanced for hundreds of thousands of fliers daily at the country’s busiest airport.

“Terminal 2 is not just a facility upgrade, it’s a complete reimagination of the passenger journey. With self baggage drop and autonomous docking aerobridges, we are empowering travellers, optimising efficiency and preparing IGI Airport for the future of aviation,” said Videh Kumar Jaipuriar, CEO of DIAL.

The revamped terminal offers self baggage drop counters to cut waiting time and new boarding bridges fitted with autonomous docking technology, the first such installation in India. DIAL has procured six advanced passenger boarding bridges from South Korea, featuring wheelchair-accessible ramps, optimised cabins for seamless boarding and safety-enhanced swing doors. Inside, the terminal has been redesigned with modern ceilings, skylights and advanced flooring for comfort and durability. Improved road connectivity is expected to ease access to and from the airport.
