The Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi (IIIT-Delhi) has announced a significant hike in its PhD fellowship, increasing the monthly stipend from Rs 37,000 to Rs 60,000, the institute said in a statement on Monday.

This increase aims to attract top-tier research talent and enhance India’s innovation ecosystem. Along with the fellowship hike, IIIT-Delhi is offering additional financial benefits, including an annual research contingency grant of Rs 20,000, a one-time laptop grant of Rs 50,000 and professional development support of Rs 2.5 lakh to fund participation in international conferences and workshops. PhD scholars would also receive up to Rs 1.5 lakh for international research visits.

The Director of Indraprastha Institute of Information Technology, Delhi, Ranjan Bose, highlighted the institute’s dedication to advancing high-impact research. “The increased PhD fellowship is in line with our vision of attracting the best students from across the country, encouraging interdisciplinary and industry-relevant research, and empowering scholars to make meaningful contributions to global scientific progress,” he said. He also noted this initiative aims to make academia a more financially viable career option compared to corporate jobs.

without external pressures,” he added.
