The Indian Institute of Technology Delhi (IIT Delhi) and Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS) have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the aim of strengthening STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) education. This partnership marks the first ever MoU between KVS and any IIT for STEM outreach, focusing on enhancing scientific learning among school students and providing professional development for teachers.

The agreement formalises ongoing collaborations between the two institutions, including the participation of KV students from the Delhi NCR region in the Sci Tech Spins lecture series, organised by IIT Delhi’s Office of Academic Outreach and New Initiatives. The series completed eight sessions this year, engaging around 3,000 students from classes IX to XII, with a special focus on participants from government schools, particularly the Kendriya Vidyalayas.

During the discussions, several existing initiatives of IIT Delhi’s Office of Academic Outreach & New Initiatives were highlighted for their alignment with the MoU’s objectives. “The ongoing programmes, especially Manasvi: STEM mentorship programme for high school girls, was highly appreciated by Prachi Pandey, IA & AS, Commissioner, KVS, and Joint Secretary, DoSE&L, Ministry of Education. She also stressed upon the need for skill enhancement and development programmes for teachers and students.”

As part of the MoU, KV students and teachers will participate in various STEM activities organised by the IIT, designed to make scientific learning more interactive and application driven. IIT faculty and students will also conduct outreach sessions in KV schools to inspire young minds to pursue STEM careers. These training sessions will cover emerging technologies, advancements in STEM, and innovative teaching practices aimed at equipping educators with modern classroom tools.

This partnership marks a crucial step in IIT Delhi’s efforts to raise curiosity among learners at an early age and equip them better for STEM subjects. While working alongside KV teachers, this initiative aims to build upon their strong foundation, addressing emerging needs in modern teaching approaches to further enhance classroom learning.
