BJP MPs Ramvir Singh Bidhuri and Bansuri Swaraj hailed the Delhi High Court’s decision directing the Delhi Government to sign an MoU with the Union Health Ministry by January 5, 2025, to implement the Ayushman Bharat Scheme in Delhi.
The ruling, which mandates the AAP government to take immediate action despite the ongoing model code of conduct, is expected to pave the way for crucial healthcare reforms in the capital.
Speaking to the media on Friday, South Delhi MP Bidhuri expressed his gratitude to the Delhi High Court for its intervention. He emphasised that the court’s order cleared the path for the development of hospitals, laboratories, and other essential healthcare facilities under the PM Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM).
“The Delhi government has delayed this process due to political motives, depriving the people of Delhi of the benefits they deserve. Now with the court’s ruling, we are hopeful that the city will soon see the construction of critical healthcare infrastructure,” Bidhuri said.
The BJP leader also acknowledged Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s efforts, highlighting that Rs 2,406 crore had been allocated to Delhi under the PM-ABHIM scheme for upgrading health infrastructure. However, he pointed out that the AAP government’s delay in signing the MoU had stalled these developments.
“This delay has not only delayed the construction of health facilities but also denied Delhi residents the benefits of free healthcare,” he added.
Bidhuri went on to express confidence that with the implementation of the Ayushman Bharat scheme, Delhiites would soon be able to avail of free treatment of up to Rs 5 lakh, similar to other states.
“The scheme is already benefiting millions across India, and now Delhi will also be a part of it,” he said.
New Delhi MP Swaraj, who was also present at the press conference, highlighted the importance of the Ayushman Bharat scheme.
