Interstate drug cartel busted, 4 held, 30-kg opium seized

The Special Cell of the Delhi Police has successfully busted an interstate drug cartel arresting four persons and seizing a total of 30.6 kg of high-end opium worth Rs 1 crore in the international market, police officials said on Saturday.

The police said that on December 31, it received intelligence input about two members of the cartel delivering a consignment of drugs at Sarai Kale Khan Bus Stop in Delhi. Acting on this, a raiding party was formed, and a trap was laid in the area.

Two individuals, Ajay alias Hanumaan (45) and Kailash (27), both residents of Jodhpur, Rajasthan, were apprehended. During the operation, six kg of opium was recovered from their possession.

The investigation led the team to another accused, Annda Ram (38), also from Jodhpur, Rajasthan. He was arrested on January 2, in Guwahati, Assam, with the help of the local police. Officials said they recovered 8.15 kg opium from his possession. The probe further unravelled the involvement of a fourth accused, Vinod Yadav (38), a truck driver from Gorakhpur, Uttar Pradesh.
