Jamia Millia Islamia dentistry students win research grants

Two students from the Faculty of Dentistry at Jamia Millia Islamia have been awarded the Short Term Studentship (STS) 2024 research grants by the Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), New Delhi.

The ICMR-STS programme is a national initiative aimed at promoting research aptitude among MBBS and BDS undergraduates, providing them with experience in research methodology and techniques under the guidance of experienced faculty mentors. Each selected student receives a stipend of Rs 50,000 to conduct their approved research project during the academic year 2024-25.

This year’s awardees are Fona Rao, who will undertake a project titled ‘Comparative Evaluation of Two Radiographic Methods of Dental Age Estimation in Children and Adolescents: A Standpoint of Forensic Odontology’ under the mentorship of Dr Aman Chowdhry; and Zaira Hussain, whose research would focus on ‘Comparative Assessment of Temporomandibular Joint and Masticatory Muscles Activity Using Unilateral versus Bilateral Jaw Opener in Patients with Trismus’, guided by Dr Deborah Sybil.

Prof Keya Sircar, Dean of the Faculty of Dentistry, has been an advocate of undergraduate research initiatives. She congratulated both students on their outstanding success and praised their mentors for guiding them towards excellence.
