The election committee of the Jawaharlal Nehru University Students' Union (JNUSU) on Thursday announced the tentative schedule for the 2025–26 student body elections, with polling slated for November 4 and results to be declared on November 6.
According to election committee chairperson Ravi Kant, the poll process will commence on October 24 with the display of the tentative voter list and the initiation of corrections from 9 am to 5 pm. Nomination forms will be issued on October 25 between 2 pm and 5 pm, while candidates can file their nominations on October 27 from 9.30 am to 5 pm.
The list of valid nominations will be displayed at 10 am on October 28, followed by the withdrawal of nominations between 2 pm and 5 pm. The final list of candidates will be released the same day by 7 pm, followed by a press briefing and space allotment for campaigning at 8 pm.
Meanwhile, the JNU campus has already begun buzzing with election fervour. Student organisations from both the Left and Right wings have started mobilising their cadres, conducting meetings and planning campaigns to reach out to the electorate. Posters, pamphlets and discussion circles have begun to reappear in hostels and canteens, signalling the return of the university’s vibrant democratic tradition.
Speaking about the upcoming elections, Vaibhav Meena, Joint Secretary, JNUSU (ABVP), said, “Students are eager for change and are responding positively to our vision of accountability and development within the campus. We are fully prepared to contest these elections with a strong agenda focused on academic reform and student welfare.”
On the other hand, Nitish Kumar, President, JNUSU (AISA), stated, “These elections will highlight the voice of students who have always stood for inclusivity, freedom of expression, and affordable education. Our campaign will continue to defend the democratic and progressive character of JNU.”
