Kejri govt played with future of contractual workers: BJP
Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva on Friday launched a sharp attack on the previous Arvind Kejriwal-led AAP government, accusing it of exploiting thousands of youth by appointing them to contract-based government roles without following due recruitment procedures.
He alleged that the former administration handed out jobs to bus marshals, civil defence volunteers, data operators and Mohalla Clinic staff in violation of rules, jeopardising their long-term prospects.
“Now that they are out of power, they are shedding crocodile tears and using these very workers for political mileage,” said Sachdeva. He claimed there were even allegations that money was taken in exchange for these contract jobs.
Clarifying the BJP-led government’s stand, Sachdeva asserted that it was committed to ensuring a fair and secure future for all temporary government workers. “The BJP government is sensitive to their concerns and is working to regularise employment through proper channels,” he said.
Addressing concerns over the future of Mohalla Clinics, Sachdeva said the clinics would continue operations, with some being transitioned into Ayushman Arogya Mandirs.
He added that the Health Minister had assured staff that their existing contracts would be extended for a year and they would also be considered for recruitment under the National Health Mission (NHM).
Sachdeva concluded that the BJP government aimed to provide a rule-based path to regular employment, avoiding the ad-hoc and politically motivated practices of the previous regime.
