Ahead of the Delhi elections, AAP national convener Arvind Kejriwal made promises aimed at addressing the needs of tenants in the national capital.
Kejriwal said the tenants would get 200 units of free electricity and 20,000 liters of free water per month, if AAP returns to power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections
Addressing a press conference on Saturday, Kejriwal said tenants, who often belong to the Purvanchal community, were deprived of the AAP’s free electricity and water schemes.
“Tenants are also residents of Delhi and they deserve these benefits. If our government is formed after the elections, we will introduce a system to provide free electricity and water for tenants,” he stated.
Kejriwal pointed out that despite benefitting from other AAP initiatives like free bus rides for women, free treatment, mohalla clinics and top-tier schools, tenants do not have access to free utilities.
“I’ve heard tenants across the city. They enjoy access to schools and healthcare, but were deprived of free electricity and water schemes,” he said.
He further noted that several tenants in Delhi come from economically disadvantaged backgrounds and live in large buildings. “Soon, these tenants will also start receiving the benefits of free electricity and water,” Kejriwal affirmed.
Senior AAP leaders, including Manish Sisodia and Delhi CM Atishi, supported the announcement, with Sisodia calling it a historic step for tenants and Purvanchal residents. Atishi also praised the move, stating that it showcased Kejriwal’s understanding of the needs of Delhi’s residents.
This promise is seen as a major step to enhance the quality of life for Delhi’s tenants.
