Kejriwal promises to waive off “incorrect-inflated” water bills
AAP convener Arvind Kejriwal announced on Saturday that his party would waive off “incorrect and inflated” water bills if they retain power in the upcoming Delhi Assembly election. This promise is AAP’s sixth welfare guarantee this poll season.
Earlier, Kejriwal had announced a welfare scheme for Delhi’s auto drivers, Dr Ambedkar Samman Scholarship, Mahila Samman Yojana, Sanjeevani Yojana, and Pujari-Granthi Samman Yojana.
Kejriwal alleged that BJP created a mess, resulting in people receiving water bills amounting to thousands or even lakhs of rupees every month. He claimed that the Delhi government had been providing 20,000 litre of water free of cost to every household, and over 12 lakh families had zero monthly water bills.
“After the elections, AAP will form the government, and we will ensure that these inflated and erroneous bills are waived off. This is my promise and guarantee to everyone. So, there is no need for anyone to worry or be distressed — AAP stands with the people,” the AAP supremo said.
Meanwhile, BJP attacked Kejriwal over inflated bills and asked him to first clarify reasons behind not correcting the “incorrect” bills.
“In Kejriwal’s rule, either there is no water in taps or it is black and poisonous, but people are getting bills, not in thousands, but lakhs,” Delhi BJP president Virendra Sachdeva said.
He added that the erroneous bills were generated by Delhi Jal Board, which comes under the purview of the AAP government.
“What is the problem in correcting the wrong bills today? They should correct the bills, not waive them off. Even the model code of conduct will not be a hindrance in this,” Sachdeva said, adding that the AAP leadership should also answer to those people who have already paid the “erroneous and inflated” water bills.
