Kejriwal using ‘unethical tactics’ to intimidate Congress' Dikshit, claims Delhi party chief
Delhi Pradesh Congress Committee president Devender Yadav has condemned the alleged involvement of Punjab Government’s intelligence personnel in surveillance activities to target the Congress candidate for the New Delhi Assembly constituency, Sandeep Dikshit. Yadav’s remarks come after Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena ordered an inquiry into the matter following Dikshit’s complaint that vehicles associated with Punjab’s intelligence services were frequently parked outside his residence.
In the complaint filed by Dikshit, a former Member of Parliament (MP), he claimed that the intelligence personnel were visiting his house on multiple occasions, allegedly under the direction of former Delhi chief minister Arvind Kejriwal.
“It is a serious and alarming matter that the Punjab Police are being used for such surveillance-related activities at the behest of Kejriwal,” Yadav said, accusing the AAP chief of misusing law enforcement to intimidate Dikshit, a prominent Congress leader and a key candidate in the upcoming elections.
He suggested that Kejriwal, who is facing a tough challenge to retain his seat in the upcoming Delhi Assembly elections, was resorting to desperate measures to maintain his political hold. “Kejriwal is rattled by the impending defeat and is using unethical tactics to suppress his opponents,” Yadav added. “The Punjab intelligence personnel are being used as pawns to intimidate Dikshit and disrupt the democratic process.’
Yadav also condemned what he described as Kejriwal’s “demeaning tactics” to undermine the fairness of the elections. “It is highly condemnable that Kejriwal, unable to face a free and fair election, is resorting to such undemocratic methods,” Yadav said. “The L-G has rightly taken cognisance of the matter. We cannot allow candidates to be intimidated or discouraged from participating in the electoral process.”
He further said Kejriwal’s leadership was weakening after his promises to provide Rs 2,100 to women and free healthcare for the elderly were exposed as empty, with the AAP government’s own departments calling out the lack of implementation. “After the AAP’s promises were debunked, Kejriwal is now adopting desperate measures to hold on to power,” he said.
