Khatri wants urgent govt, police action
Seeks FIR registration, deployment of PCR van outside his house
Former Delhi University Students’ Union (DUSU) president Ronak Khatri, who received a threat call from gangster Rohit Godara, urged the government and the police to take urgent action.
Khatri has long been a prominent face in student activism. Recently, the focus shifted from his public work to a personal danger that has shaken him and his family. He allegedly received an extortion demand of Rs 5 crore from gangster Rohit Godara, highlighting the risk faced by student leaders and public figures.
In an interview with The Tribune correspondent at the Delhi Vidhan Sabha, Khatri recounted the incident. The threat call came from an international phone number. Though he initially did not answer, he later received a message stating, “I am Rohit Godara. How long will you not answer my call? Give me Rs 5 crore or I will kill you.”
Acting swiftly, Khatri lodged a complaint at the DCP Outer North Office via email, attaching a screenshot of the threatening message as evidence.
Describing the gravity of the threat, Khatri said, “You can kill me. I have sacrificed myself for this country. I appeal to the government for urgent action. Today it’s me, tomorrow it can be your family.”
He urged the government and the police to take firm action against criminal networks and anti-lobbyist groups that target student leaders, actors and politicians, stressing that stronger measures are needed to curb such incidents.
Khatri also outlined his security demands, including FIR registration, deployment of a PCR van and security outside his residence and personal protection during interstate travel. He said, “If I am killed in future, the government will be responsible for my death.”
Concluding the interview, Khatri appealed to the public and his supporters for solidarity, highlighting the importance of collective action to stop crime and ensure the safety of citizens.
