The Delhi Lieutenant Governor (L-G) VK Saxena on Sunday approved full relaxation in educational qualifications and age limit up to 55 years for 88 applicants seeking government employment as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS), Raj Niwas officials said.
The step comes as a response to repeated appeals by the Delhi Sikh Gurdwara Management Committee, public representatives, and victims’ groups, who have been urging the administration to facilitate rehabilitation measures, they said.
The L-G office stated, “A series of special camps were organised from November 28 to November 30 to invite applications for government jobs from riot victims and their family members. Following this initiative, 199 applications were received, and 89 candidates were found eligible. However, these applicants faced barriers due to age and educational qualifications. The recent approval eliminates these obstacles for 88 candidates, ensuring their rightful employment in government service.”
A rehabilitation package, sanctioned by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) in 2006, included provisions for employment for riot victims. However, the implementation process had faced challenges over the years.
Officials from the L-G’s office said that the Revenue Department had identified 72 applications in a special drive, out of which 22 appointments were made with age relaxation granted by the then L-G.
Recently, L-G Saxena granted similar relaxations to the remaining 50 applicants and directed the Revenue Department to extend the benefits to children of applicants who had exceeded the employable age.
