Lieutenant-Governor VK Saxena and Transport Minister Kailash Gahlot flagged off the new buses from Baansera in Sarai Kale Khan. Gahlot said, “The induction of new electric buses marks a significant step towards our commitment to creating a cleaner and greener Delhi.”

“These environment-friendly buses are also equipped with the latest safety and convenience features. We are proud to have the highest number of electric buses in any Indian city and are dedicated to further expanding this fleet,” he added.

Before the recent addition, Delhi operated 1,650 electric buses since January 2022, which collectively travelled over 112 million kilometres and prevented the emission of 91,000 tonnes of CO2, officials said. Besides, Delhi now operates the second-largest electric bus fleet globally, after Chinese cities, claimed officials. Delhi plans to have a total of 10,480 buses, with 80 per cent being electric buses, by 2025. It is projected to prevent emission of 4,67,000 tonnes of CO2 annually.

Of the 320 new electric buses, 114 will operate from the Sukhdev Vihar Depot, 150 from the Kalkaji Depot and 120 from the Naraina Depot.
